While Orlando, Florida is best known for the family entertainment and tourist attractions of Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld, this city of more than 200,000 also offers a diverse selection of beautiful golf, luxury and lakefront homes, along with condominium and townhome communities, all with the benefit of a warm year-round climate.
The state's third-largest metropolitan, Orlando is located in Central Florida, and is home to the second-largest university in the state, the University of Central Florida. Incorporated in 1875, following a population boom after the Civil War, Orlando began as an important hub for Florida's citrus industry. The city began attracting many high-tech businesses in the mid-20th century, thanks to its proximity to the Kennedy Space Center. When Walt Disney announced plans in 1965 to build Walt Disney World here, it ushered in a transformation of the city, which now has an economy based solidly on the tourism industry.
