As one of the oldest municipalities in Central Florida, Maitland has a rich history. The U.S. Army built Fort Maitland here in 1838, and the city was incorporated as the Town of Lake Maitland in 1885. Maitland is a place where the arts flourish and culture is alive. This city of 12,000 offers a number of natural and cultural attractions--the Florida Audobon Society was founded in Maitland, and the Enzian Theater is home to the annual Florida Film Festival. The city also hosts an annual Spring Festival of the Arts and Taste of Maitland, among other festivals. Maitland also offers beautiful parklands, lakes, and recreational facilities.
Maitland is a city which continues to grow. Development designs for a new downtown project are underway. The city is proud of its past and substantial effort to preserve its historical residences. In fact, a "historical corridor" has been established, which includes old residences in the Lake Lily-Lake Catherine area and extends through the central portion of the city. Rich in heritage and natural beauty, Maitland is a city you will be proud to call home.
